Save Vs Splurge on window dressings
"In today's financial climate, there is no shame whatsoever in looking for the cheaper alternative, be it supermarket, item of clothing, bag or holiday!" says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design at Hillarys Blinds.
"Instead it has almost become fashionable and something to be positively proud of," she adds. "There are any number of 'get the look' style features in glossy magazines which often compare designer clothing or homewares with their very similar, but much cheaper and infinitely more accessible, high street spin-offs.
"The same strategy can be applied to almost everything so here is our own selection of cost effective options when it comes to window dressings."
Wood Venetians Vs Shutters
Shutters are widely regarded as the ultimate window dressing thanks to their stylish appearance and all round practicality. However if your aspirations stretch to this Rolls Royce of window treatment but your budget doesn't, then you can get a similar look for less money with wooden venetians, as shown here on the left.
Wooden venetians featured are Alaskan White from Hillarys, prices start at £120 / 149 euros (60cm wide x 60cm drop) measured,
made and fitted. Shutters are Ascot in medium Oak from Hillarys, prices start at £300 / 379 euros per square metre, measured,
made and fitted. So the bay above would cost you £444 / 470 euros for wooden venetians and £1708.50 / 1805 euros
for shutters.
Aluwood venetians Vs Wood venetians
Looks can be deceiving when it comes to aluwood venetians as they combine the practicality , low cost and easy maintenance of
aluminium blinds with the beautiful colours and graining of wood. They're also the perfect solution for kitchens and bathrooms or
any window in a room that's exposed to steam and condensation.
Hillarys blinds featured are (left) Pecan aluwood blinds, prices start at £43 / 54 euros and (right) Driftwood wood venetians, prices
start at £120 / 149 euros, (60cm wide x 60cm drop) measured, made and fitted.
Roman Shades Vs Roman lined blinds
Roman Shades are an unlined, value for money version of the popular fully-lined roman blind. They're modern, stylish and economical and perfect for decorative window treatments where diffused light control is required. A lined roman can also make good economical sense though as they are one of the most energy efficient window dressings and therefore could help to save money on your fuel bills.
Blinds featured are (left) Roman Shades in Patch Cream, prices start at £64 / 68 euros (60cm wide x 75cm drop) and (right)
Iceberg White lined Romans, prices start at £113 / 122 euros, measured, made and fitted.
