TOP TIP - Shutter them out!
Our homes should be a safe haven from the stresses and strains of the world, a place to relax and put your feet up. As the nights draw in home security becomes ever more important and anything you can do to make your home look and feel as safe as possible is worth considering.
"Shutters can let plenty of light and ventilation in whilst keeping prying eyes out to provide both privacy and security for your home," says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design for Hillarys. "It's very hard to tell from the outside whether someone is in or not, as the slats can be angled so that any lights left on can be seen, or noise from a radio or tv can be heard. This is a great deterrent if you're away on holiday or even just out at work during the day.
"Where you have a view you don't want to completely obscure but want to prevent those outside from seeing into your home - perhaps you have a living room or bedroom that looks out onto the street, consider installing café-style shutters, which will only cover the lower half of your window. This gives a view from the top half of the window, but maintains privacy.
"Shutters may also help to cut your fuel bill as they fit snugly into the window frame which will significantly reduce cold air from draughty windows."
