Child's play

Blinds to suit children's rooms

A child's bedroom is their own precious personal world. A place they can escape to and keep all their favourite 'stuff', all neatly stored away of course! "It's very tempting to want to decorate your child's room to suit your own taste and style but letting them have some input is an important part of growing up," says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design for Hillarys.

"Children love bright colours, busy walls and funky furniture," she adds. "You may have to take some deep breaths and count to a 100 when you see just what they have in mind, but it could also help them feel comfortable about making bolder design decisions when they have their own homes."

Here are some tips when it comes to choosing window dressings for children's rooms: Window treatments for a child's room should be as light and airy as possible. Avoid heavy drapes of fabric as little hands tend to grab anything and everything and these could quite easily be pulled down. Blind featured is Slubby Corn from Hillarys Romans collection Blackout blinds are a good choice for kids' rooms. They make it much easier to settle small children on light evenings and should help stop them waking up at dawn in the summer months. Roller blinds also allow you to let in as much natural light as possible at other times. Use roller blinds to cover up shelves for an instant 'tidy up'!

Going neutral is a good decorating option if you don't want to spoil the
surprise but do want to have everything ready for the new addition!
Rollers especially in a blackout fabric are perfect for Velux or Skylight
windows. Blinds featured are Acacia Tango from Hillarys Rollers collection. When siblings have to share a room you can still give them a space of their own by using roller blinds as room dividers.
Either choose a spring operated roller (without a sidewinder chain) or use one of Hillarys chain tidies to keep the chain out of childrens reach.
