Ensuring just the right coverage

imageChoosing the correct projection size for your awning is very important as it will affect the size of the area that will be kept in the shade. As the sun moves across the sky throughout the day, and also as it reaches different heights at different times of the year, the shade your awning will provide will change. Remember, your awning will slope down too. So it needs to be fitted high enough to allow enough headroom at the front of the awning, plus adequate clearance for any outward opening doors or windows.Your expert advisor will of course explain this to you, and recommend the solution that best suits your needs. However, these diagrams may help.

Diagram 1 shows the area that will be shaded if your awning is fitted at 2.4 metres high. To ensure a shaded area a couple of metres away from the building, the awning projection needs to be 3 metres. The blue dotted line demonstrates the headroom clearance provided when the awning is fitted at 2.4 metres.

Diagram 2 shows how wide your awning should be. We recommend a minimum 50cm overhang at either side of the area you would like shaded. If the awning is narrower than this, the sun will creep in and out of the area at different times of the day. We strongly recommend you choose as wide an awning as possible - the wider the awning, the more shade it will provide.
