Softer coloured window blinds are ‘bang on-trend’ this season

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Softer blue and green-coloured blinds are “bang on-trend” this season, it has been claimed.

Soft duck-egg blue and green made to measure window blinds are set to be “bang on-trend” this season, it has been claimed.

Homeowners refitting their bedrooms have been advised by Ideal Home Magazine that this palette works well whether as part of a mix or match approach to interior design.

The colours have been recommended for fans of feminine florals, with the shades likely to be a great match for some new spring bedlinen.

Earlier this week, interior designer Adrienne Chinn explained that homeowners are becoming more adventurous with their colour choices in the home.

She explained that people are beginning to tend away from the beige and ‘hotel look’ styles that have been popular over the last decade.

“I think it is going in a really fresh, interesting, vibrant direction – which as an interior designer is great,” Ms Chinn added, suggesting that vintage items are proving particularly popular.

Could panel blinds help blend raw edges and finer details

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Blending raw edges with finer details can help create an exciting eclectic look, it has been claimed.

Blending the raw edges of made to measure panel blinds with finer details in a room is a great way to create an eclectic look in the home, it has been claimed.

Speaking to the Orlando Sentinel, reality TV interior designer Thom Filicia explained how this mixing of features is reflected in his own furniture designs.

He told the newspaper: “I like to blend refined details with raw edges, industrial with organic, Asian with African with American.”

Mr Filicia also added that he likes to put historical references and traditional elements into his designs, but in a modern way, which can also be achieved using wooden Venetian blinds in a modern home.

Last month, interior designer Debra Kacher of dk Interiors suggested that colours used in home refurbishments are being heavily influenced by fashion trends, which is expected to continue in 2010.

She added that there has been a marked move towards more use of colour in interior design for some time.

Homeowners to match window blinds with 1930s glamour?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In terms of style the 1930s era is among the best, claims one interior designer, and matching windows blinds with icons from the era could be popular with homeowners.

The 1930s was an overflowing with icons and using stylised wallpaper can be a great decoration tool, claims a designer, which may interest those seeking new window blinds.

There are different ways of successfully integrating window blinds into interior design and infuse various forms of artwork or photography could be key, a decorator claims.

Talking about the importance of bucking the trend with home decoration, interior designer Andrew Ginger reveals his admiration for Cecil Beaton and stated to the Telegraph: “Not everybody wants to decorate with florals.

“We have always loved the scenic effects of toile de jouy and so thought; why not make some textile designs from his drawings of people?”

Matching window blinds with carefully chosen pieces of artwork, such as photo prints, is something that homeowners often strive for to achieve the style they are after.

Cecil Beaton was a 1930s photographer whose career spanned decades. During his career, he took celebrated photos of the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy and Marlene Dietrich.

Drawing up Venetian blinds ‘can help to heat the home on sunny days’

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Closing Venetian blinds in the winter are a great way to conserve heat and energy in the home, it has been claimed.

Made to measure Venetian blinds are a great way to conserve heat in the home, but they can also be used to raise the temperature on sunny days, it has been claimed.

Founder of Mahogany Builders Matt Lederer has offered a number of tips intended to improve home energy efficiency this spring.

Making sure that windows are properly sealed to prevent drafts – and also that they have appropriate window blinds or curtains to retain heat – is one of the most important considerations.

However, he also claims that on brighter days, homeowners should draw back their made to measure Venetian blinds and let some sunlight into their living rooms and kitchens.

This can help to heat the house, allowing for savings on heating bills during a period when the thermostat is usually particularly high.

His comments follow claims by Build It Magazine editor Duncan Hayes, who claimed last week that many homeowners find green energy technologies too expensive to implement in their property.

This could see more homeowners looking for cheaper ways to conserve energy and reduce their carbon footprint, such as by installing blinds that help to retain heat in a house.

Baby it’s cold outside – BLINDING IDEAS TO HELP CUT THE COST OF BILLS

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

“As we brace ourselves for cold weather, keeping warm becomes big on our list of priorities,” says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design at Hillarys.

“While piling on leg warmers and layers is one way, there are some simple things you can do to turn your home from a draughty ice palace into a cosy hideaway.

“And according to research from Nottingham University on behalf of Hillarys, homeowners can make significant savings on fuel bills simply by selecting the right window dressing.”

The study compared and evaluated various blind and fabric types and Cascade Romans which fall in lovely soft waterfalls of fabric, topped the study as the most energy efficient blinds of all. They’re perfect for a cosy bedroom or living room, especially if the room is north facing or has several large windows.

Conservatories can almost become‘no go’ areas during the chillier winter months. Pleated blinds with an insulating backing can help to keep heat in so you stay snug and warm whilst saving on energy.

Radiators are often placed under windows and then covered up by heavy curtains that can stop the heat circulating properly. Roman blinds give the luxurious look of curtains but fit snugly into the window recess, keeping radiators free to do their job effectively.
