Homeowners to match window blinds with 1930s glamour?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In terms of style the 1930s era is among the best, claims one interior designer, and matching windows blinds with icons from the era could be popular with homeowners.

The 1930s was an overflowing with icons and using stylised wallpaper can be a great decoration tool, claims a designer, which may interest those seeking new window blinds.

There are different ways of successfully integrating window blinds into interior design and infuse various forms of artwork or photography could be key, a decorator claims.

Talking about the importance of bucking the trend with home decoration, interior designer Andrew Ginger reveals his admiration for Cecil Beaton and stated to the Telegraph: “Not everybody wants to decorate with florals.

“We have always loved the scenic effects of toile de jouy and so thought; why not make some textile designs from his drawings of people?”

Matching window blinds with carefully chosen pieces of artwork, such as photo prints, is something that homeowners often strive for to achieve the style they are after.

Cecil Beaton was a 1930s photographer whose career spanned decades. During his career, he took celebrated photos of the likes of Marilyn Monroe, Twiggy and Marlene Dietrich.

Baby it’s cold outside – BLINDING IDEAS TO HELP CUT THE COST OF BILLS

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

“As we brace ourselves for cold weather, keeping warm becomes big on our list of priorities,” says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design at Hillarys.

“While piling on leg warmers and layers is one way, there are some simple things you can do to turn your home from a draughty ice palace into a cosy hideaway.

“And according to research from Nottingham University on behalf of Hillarys, homeowners can make significant savings on fuel bills simply by selecting the right window dressing.”

The study compared and evaluated various blind and fabric types and Cascade Romans which fall in lovely soft waterfalls of fabric, topped the study as the most energy efficient blinds of all. They’re perfect for a cosy bedroom or living room, especially if the room is north facing or has several large windows.

Conservatories can almost become‘no go’ areas during the chillier winter months. Pleated blinds with an insulating backing can help to keep heat in so you stay snug and warm whilst saving on energy.

Radiators are often placed under windows and then covered up by heavy curtains that can stop the heat circulating properly. Roman blinds give the luxurious look of curtains but fit snugly into the window recess, keeping radiators free to do their job effectively.

More than just window decoration..

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Blinds may just seem like a way of decorating your windows but they are in fact much more exciting. Blinds can have a number of uses that you may never have thought about before. For example what about solving those storage problems by using a blind to replace your wardrobe doors? Roller blinds work best for this effect and not only create more space, as large doors are not continually being opened into the space of the room and therefore particularly useful in small bedrooms or where beds or other furniture are situated close to your wardrobe doors, but they also look good too.

Become more energy efficient with Honeycomb Blinds

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Environmental issues are mentioned virtually everyday in the news but it can be hard to decide exactly what you can do to help, especially when most options seem to involve a lot of time and/or a lot money.

But there is one way that won’t break the bank; becoming more energy efficient is quick and easy, anyone can make small changes to their home or daily routine resulting in not just ‘saving the world’ but also your hard earned money. As always Hillarys is quick to pick up on a trend and we have recently launched our new Honeycomb blind range, looking similar to the well-loved Pleated blind, the fabric in our energy efficient Honeycomb blinds is formed from hexagonal cells placed side-to-side, which trap air and create a barrier against draughts coming through windows.

They come in ten different shades, a range of sizes and we even offer a cordless option to protect your little ones. By being more energy efficient we can all help to save the planet and prevent climate change, looking out for future generations.
