Homeowners ‘have endless blinds options’

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Homeowners 'have endless blinds options'People looking to use the likes of Roman blinds and other styles as part of home improvement projects have a number of options, it has been suggested.

Writing for SILive.com, Andrea Boyarsky said people can now choose from an array of window coverings, from wooden Venetian blinds to alternatives which make use of both vinyl and fabric.

She added that the number of options is in stark contrast to in the past, when people only had “simple utilitarian white shades”.

Blinds and shades today are available in a variety of styles, colours, patterns and materials and can even be equipped with motorised control systems,” she explained.

Ms Boyarsky added that advice could be useful for consumers, as the choice can be “dizzying”.

The comments have come after Kristin Abram, an interior designer who writes for Suite101.com, suggested that people should consider function when adding products like blinds to their living rooms.ADNFCR-3100-ID-19906959-ADNFCR

Roller blinds ideal for kitchen redesign

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Roller blinds ideal for kitchen redesignChoosing the right window dressing is a key part of redesigning a kitchen, an interior designer has said.

Peter Mason said on ezinearticles.com that kitchens are one of the most important rooms in a home, calling them “a social hub that also serve an important function”.

With that in mind, Mr Mason says it is important to ensure you make the right choices when upgrading a kitchen, and that includes making sure you get the best blinds.

Roller blinds are suited to cooking areas and can inject colour and vitality into the space, but Mr Mason advises opting for “simple tones” when choosing flooring and cabinets.

“Changing your kitchen can really make a great improvement to your home, giving it a fresh and more updated look,” Mr Mason concludes.

According to UKhomeideas.co.uk, people choosing roller blinds should take inspiration from nature and opt for patterned ones that reflect the flora and fauna of the natural world.ADNFCR-3100-ID-19905701-ADNFCR

Go for variety in a room with blinds

Go for variety in a room with blindsThey say variety is the spice of life and where better to prove the point and make a statement than in your own home?

While it is common for people to pick a theme and stick dutifully to its conventions as they carry out home improvements, an Interiordec.com blog advised homeowners to be more adventurous.

So while Roman blinds may be suited to a Mediterranean theme, they can also be fitted in a more eclectic-looking room.

The website suggests that colours can be mixed and matched too, with contrasting tones often working just as well as those that complement each other.

Being more adaptable and open-minded when redecorating a space means it is easier to make purchases as things can’t be ruled out on the basis they don’t fit one particular theme.

Interior designer Linda Barker said eclectic themes are "exciting" and she encouraged more homeowners to try it.

Be bold in your choice of colour for blinds

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Be bold in your choice of colour for blindsOpting for a bold colour scheme with roman blinds to match can liven up a bathroom, according to an expert.

Though some may find bold colours off-putting or overwhelming, they can work well in bathrooms and can lend a sense of fun to an otherwise dull space.

Housetohome.co.uk says that providing the dominant colour is offset by other accent tones, bold colours can create a design theme that is appropriate all year round.

And it also translates well in other rooms around the house, such as study areas, bedrooms or even in a lounge-diner.

Anyone with objections to vivid-coloured room can make concessions just by having one or two features in that colour, including blinds or cushions.

Roman blinds are also suitable for Mediterranean-themed rooms, according to interior design specialist Thomas Pretty, writing for GoArticles.com, with summer being the ideal time to implement such a theme.

Pink roman blinds can bring a room to life

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Pink roman blinds can bring a room to lifeOpting for a pink colour scheme with roman blinds to match can liven up a room, according to an expert.

Though some may think pink is a feminine colour which shouldn’t be used in gender-neutral areas of the house, it works well in bathrooms and can lend a sense of fun to an otherwise dull space.

Housetohome.co.uk says that, as it matches well with white, pink need not be too domineering in a room and it’s a colour scheme that is appropriate all year round.

And it also translates well in other rooms around the house, such as study areas, bedrooms or even in a lounge-diner.

Anyone with objections to a pink-dominated room can make concessions just by having one or two features in that colour, including blinds or cushions.

Roman blinds perfect for Mediterranean theme

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Roman blinds perfect for Mediterranean themeRoman blinds can help bring a flavour of the Mediterranean to a home, according to an expert.

Their cultured appearance and versatility make them an ideal solution to many window dressing problems, said Thomas Pretty in a piece for GoArticles.com.

"The look offered by roman blinds can be described as classical and elegant. Bringing a bit of Mediterranean style to any home is always advisable. This form of window dressing is relatively inexpensive, comparably costing around as much, if not less than curtains," he said.

Coming in a variety of colours, roman blinds can be found to match a variety of themes, not just the Mediterranean style, and they are also easy to fit.

In addition, they give complete control over the amount of light which is allowed into a space which makes them ideal at any time of the year.

According to HomesandGardens.com, roman blinds are a good feature in a luxurious bedroom.

Baby it’s cold outside – BLINDING IDEAS TO HELP CUT THE COST OF BILLS

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

“As we brace ourselves for cold weather, keeping warm becomes big on our list of priorities,” says Sarah Quilliam, head of product design at Hillarys.

“While piling on leg warmers and layers is one way, there are some simple things you can do to turn your home from a draughty ice palace into a cosy hideaway.

“And according to research from Nottingham University on behalf of Hillarys, homeowners can make significant savings on fuel bills simply by selecting the right window dressing.”

The study compared and evaluated various blind and fabric types and Cascade Romans which fall in lovely soft waterfalls of fabric, topped the study as the most energy efficient blinds of all. They’re perfect for a cosy bedroom or living room, especially if the room is north facing or has several large windows.

Conservatories can almost become‘no go’ areas during the chillier winter months. Pleated blinds with an insulating backing can help to keep heat in so you stay snug and warm whilst saving on energy.

Radiators are often placed under windows and then covered up by heavy curtains that can stop the heat circulating properly. Roman blinds give the luxurious look of curtains but fit snugly into the window recess, keeping radiators free to do their job effectively.
