Closing blinds ‘a cheap way to beat the heat’

Keeping curtains and blinds closed when the sun is out is a cost-effective way of keeping rooms cool during the warmer months, it has been claimed.

A recent article from Go Erie suggested that keeping windows and doors closed will also help homes keep cool, especially if people utilise box fans or ceiling fans to help the air circulate.

The news provider also suggested that people should try and spend as much time as possible on the lower level of their home, as heat rises, meaning bedrooms on upper storeys are more likely to be stuffy.

Keeping lights on unnecessarily can also make homes warmer and lead to people overheating.

The warm weather is expected to continue over the coming days, with highs of 29 and 30 degrees C anticipated over the weekend, meaning people should start taking measures to make their living spaces cooler.

It is also expected that the weather will be warm throughout the last two weeks of July and the beginning of August.
