Decluttering your children’s rooms

A neat and tidy bedroom is ideal for encouraging a restful night’s sleep.

We’re talking to Richard Hammonds, chairman of Hammonds Furniture one more time this week.

And today we’re concentrating on children’s rooms.  There’s always so much going on there.  It’s not just a place for sleeping. 

Explains Richard, ‘children’s rooms can be a storehouse for outgrown toys and books as well as clothes, school projects, and collections. Of course, children grow out of things so quickly, and quite often you may also have a stock of the next size clothing waiting to be worn.’

Richard’s advice concentrates on correct storage of course! ‘Carefully store old clothes that you may be handing down to younger children, or clothes waiting to be grown into. Make sure they’re clean and dry with empty pockets, and it’s important to check on them regularly too.

‘This should give you plenty of room to keep clothing that is currently being worn, and with that tidied away neatly, there’ll be more room for all the other stuff that’s important to your kids.’

A neat and tidy bedroom is ideal for encouraging a restful night’s sleep but to really maximise the chances of the whole house sleeping well, particularly during the summer months when the evenings and mornings are light, consider a blackout roller blind or a roman blind with a blackout lining.
