Don’t fear patterns when designing a room with blinds

Those with a fear of trying something new when styling a room should ditch their worries and try a patterned interior, an expert has advised.

Ridding the ‘plain Jane’ look and replacing it with a more adventurous style can produce an attractive space, according to Homeinteriordecortating.co.uk.

And you can look to nature for inspiration, as it offers "a fantastic shop window for patterns and colours, working both with and against traditional design conventions to great effect".

There are no set rules to decorating with patterns, the article explains, but care should always be taken not to crowd a room with too many contrasting colours – three is considered a good amount, with one dominating.

"When you explore the use of pattern in your room, think about the desired end result. More chaotic designs can liven up a space, while simpler patterns will have a calming effect," the article added.

A piece by eHow.com explained that roller blinds can be painted with patterns to tailor them to any colour scheme.
