Home improvements with blinds ‘more important than holidays’

Home improvements with blinds 'more important than holidays'Property owners should always regard home improvements as more important than taking holidays, according to an expert.

Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), said people should always consider putting DIY tasks, which may include the installation of roller blinds and patio awnings, ahead of indulging in a break abroad.

However, he explained that this often is not the case at this time of year.

Discussing home improvements, he added: “You could say they are more essential than going away for a holiday in this day and age.”

Mr Leech added that improvements which are popular at present include work on gardens and patios, which may include the installation of awnings or canopies.

Recent research published by Santander Mortgages found that first-time buyers spend an average of £3,782 on kitting out their new homes.

Nearly 60 per cent of respondents admitted to getting their properties fully furnished within 12 months.ADNFCR-3100-ID-19906965-ADNFCR
