Interior design ‘eclectic and exciting’

Interior design themes are increasingly eclectic as homeowners seek to make their properties more interesting, according to expert Linda Barker.

The Changing Rooms designer and Ideal Homes spokesperson said people are becoming increasingly brave with their choices, with bright colours, patterned wallpaper and stylish blinds growing in popularity.

"It is quite an eclectic look that is out there now; it is not formulaic, it is not boring, it is not minimalistic. It’s quite exciting," she said.

Many people are being inspired to take ideas from elsewhere and implement them in their own interior spaces.

"It is about getting influences from all over the place and employing them in your own home," Ms Barker added.

She said intricately-patterned wallpaper will be popular this year.

One of the main advantages of an eclectic decorating theme is that it allows homeowners to mix elements from a variety of styles, according to DecoratingHomes.com.
