Why the 50s are influencing interior design

We’ve been working hard on putting together a new capsule collection of roller blind fabrics, inspired by the current trend for all things vintage. It’s called ‘Family Favourites’ and it’s made up of 22 fabrics designed to appeal to all members of the family and every room of the home.

But why is retro so big at the moment?

It seems that in uncertain times such as these, people rediscover an appetite for nostalgia. They’re looking for comfort and security in things that reference the past. For interior trends, traditional family values of the 50s, when life was centred around the home and the family, are proving to be that big influence. The trick is to combine the feel of the 50s – polka dots, stripes and chintzy florals – with the comfort and convenience associated with more modern products.

Blackout fabrics, and a clever frame system called PerfectFit are two examples of the benefits of modern design. A PerfectFit frame is fitted to uPVC windows without the need for drilling.
