spring clean your blinds

Now that March is here, I’ve started thinking about giving my home a good spring clean. There’s something satisfying about freshening up your rooms after the long winter months. From mopping the floors to cleaning your windows, it’s time to blow those cobwebs away in preparation for the season ahead. Of course, having sparkling windows is no use if your chosen window dressing is looking a little dusty. Follow my top care tips and your blinds, curtains or shutters will soon be looking clean as a whistle!

Vertical blinds

The clever upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner is ideal for cleaning Vertical blind louvres. You can even wash certain fabrics by hand, or pop them in the washing machine for an intense clean. Be sure to contact our customer services team to check that your chosen fabric is washable.

Roman blinds

The upholstery tool on your vacuum cleaner will also come in handy for cleaning Roman blinds. Provided you haven’t chosen a blackout lining, you should also be able to dry-clean your blind too.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds are simple to dust down – just use a clean, dry cloth.

Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds are also easy to dust down – just use a dry or damp cloth. Be gentle though, as too much pressure can cause the slats to bend. For Metal Venetian blinds that are particularly dirty, use a mild household detergent. This can also be used on Wood Illusions blinds.

Wooden blinds

Carefully clean Wooden blinds using a dry or slightly damp, lint-free cloth.

Pleated blinds

Dust Pleated blinds with a clean, dry cloth. Be sure not to press too hard though, as this can damage the pleats. When it comes to cleaning Pleated roof blinds, a simple hairdryer is a useful tool! Use it to remove any debris from the back, then vacuum.

All curtains can be dry-cleaned but a minimal amount of shrinkage can occur with some fabrics, which could be up to 5%. Regularly using the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner can minimise the need for dry-cleaning. Be careful not to press on any hems though, as this distorts the curtains.

Cleaning your shutters is a piece of cake – just use a dry or slightly damp, lint free cloth.
