Ahoy there! Bring a splash of nautical navy to your interior

Hot off the catwalks

As the clothes we see on the catwalk increasingly influence the way we decorate our rooms, home interest magazines have begun to mirror their runway counterparts. Each month, we will take an in-depth look at an emerging trend and offer ideas on ways to use this in your interior.

Just as we rely upon the ebb and flow of the tide, you can expect coastal looks to return to fashion time and time again. ‘Nautical but nice’ ensembles have the wow-factor all year round, but prove particularly popular over the summer.

At several shows, sharp military tailoring complemented crisp navy palettes. Here at Hillarys HQ, we especially loved the mandarin-collared jackets, oversized buttons and satin belts sported by Marc Jacob’s models.

High street highlights

With so many gorgeous ideas to consider for SS 2015, it’s no surprise that the high street ‘stood to attention’! Nautical navies have been making a ‘splash’ all over the shop; this outfit from Superdry is just one fab example.

Interior inspiration

If you’re a fan of this theme, the good news is that it’s easy to apply to your décor as well as your wardrobe. Before ‘diving in’ with any scheme, we’d always recommend compiling a mood board to gather inspiration.

Taking the plunge

Once you’ve given navy the go-ahead in your home, you need to decide where to feature the shade. If you’re apprehensive about ‘taking the plunge’, window dressings are a great low-commitment way to reference the style.

Dramatic colour

Deep blue blinds make a dramatic statement wherever they are used. This is especially true when they’re paired with lighter hues. Here, white walls and furnishings supply a serene backdrop for our Acacia Navy Vertical.

Powerful prints

Ahoy there! As well as offering bold block colour, our range of navy blinds includes a stunning selection of patterns. This Portia Indigo design from our House Beautiful Collection shows off a wonderful wood block print.

It’s all in the accessories

After you’ve found the perfect window treatment, it’s time to think about accessories. In our living room, we picked out these eye-catching Carnaby Wood Venetian blinds, then completed the effect with coordinating cushions and ornaments.
