Countdown to Christmas checklist

Tara Hall by Tara Hall

There’s so much to do around Christmas it pays to get organised. When it comes to getting your home ready to welcome family and friends our festive checklist will help you put your Christmas action plan into practice.

Spruce up your living room
This is the room where everyone gathers at Christmas so it needs to feel warm and welcoming. Now is the time to de-clutter your space and give your walls a lick of paint. You can easily refresh your look with cushions, pictures, cosy throws and window dressings. In this lovely living room, we’ve combined a Bardot Fuchsia Roman blind with Bohemia Damson floral curtains. We’ve picked out the rose shades and floral elements in the window dressings for our cushions and included teal accents to match the comfy fireside armchair. For an extra cosy feel, opt for thermal linings on your curtains and Roman blinds.

Prepare your guest bedroom
At Christmas,  the guest bedroom really comes into its own, so don’t leave it to the last minute to sort out this space.  Invest in a quality mattress and crisp cotton bed linen. Even if the rest of the room is looking tired your guests will thank you for a good night’s sleep. When it comes to the windows, you should choose something that will be suitable for all ages and tastes. A blind with insulating properties will help to keep your guest room warm even when it’s not in use. And blackout fabrics are a bonus for creating the perfect environment for sleep. We’ve chosen a classic Lester Silver Roller blind for this contemporary guest bedroom.

Create a low maintenance kitchen
Chances are you’ll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen over Christmas so try and keep the work to a minimum with easy-clean surfaces and window dressings. Vertical blinds are a great choice for kitchens with large windows and patio doors, as they’re available in a wide range of practical materials - including PVC - which look great but are also really easy to maintain. This all-white kitchen may look like a cleaning nightmare, but the gorgeous marble surfaces are not only right on trend, but are also incredibly practical. We’ve chosen Alma White Vertical blinds for the expansive patio windows.

Impress your guests with fine dining
Complement your gorgeous Christmas spread with a dining room that looks and feels special. Polish your table and invest in a set of serving dishes. And if you can’t find enough matching chairs, a dining bench can be a good solution for seating several people. Wooden blinds and shutters are a lovely addition to dining spaces. Choose classic white for a sophisticated and formal feel, or soften the look with warm cream and latte tones.

Refresh your floorcoverings
Once you’ve smartened up your space, you might find that your carpets look a little shabby in comparison.  And your flooring is never more in focus than at Christmas when all the family is fishing for their presents under the tree. Now is an excellent time to shop for carpets as there are some fantastic discounts  on offer in the run-up to Christmas. Plus, our carpets include professional fitting in the price. So why not give Santa’s feet a treat with a soft new carpet this year?
