Curtain design ideas for your conservatory

Conservatories are a beautiful addition to any home, but they can come with their fair share of practical issues – over-heating in summer, unwanted chills in winter, nosy neighbors and more. But choose the right window dressings and you’ll overcome these problems with ease - and add some style points to boot. While curtains might not be the most obvious choice for this space, the benefits of these luxurious dressings are truly plentiful. Discover more in our latest article, and be inspired by our wonderful homes.

Stay in control of the light

Natural light is something we all crave in our homes, and if you’ve got a conservatory or extension, chances are you’ve plenty – maybe even a little too much? Choose the right window dressing and you’ll be able to make the most of this light, so you can enjoy it when you want it, and block it out when you don’t. Curtains are a good choice here as they pull right back, leaving the window free from obstruction. Then in the evenings they can be closed shut - we even offer blackout lining for when you want to block the light out completely. Curtains are also easily paired with other window dressings for enhanced light control and style points – this beautiful coastal space uses our Pattie Royal Vertical blinds and gorgeous Hatti Chambray curtains for a bright and breezy look.

Maintain a comfortable temperature

While we’re not usually ones to complain when the summer sun raises its head, it can cause havoc if you have a glass extension or conservatory. All those windows can cause overheating if exposed to the sun’s rays for too long. Similarly, in winter those large expanses of glass can cause unwanted draughts and chills. But choose the correct window dressings and you’ll be able to maintain a comfortable temperature all year round. Curtains cover the entire window so, when drawn, help keep your space nice and cool. And when it drops, beautiful, textured curtains add a certain cosiness that is hard to replicate with other window dressings. If your conservatory gets particularly chilly during winter ask your advisor about our thermal curtains for heightened protection from the elements.

Keep nosy neighbours at bay

A real concern for those with conservatories is privacy – all those floor-to-ceiling windows look great but can become problematic if you are in close proximity to a neighbour’s garden. If this is the case for you, consider dressing your windows with voile curtains. These sheer, modern alternatives to net curtains ensure your privacy remains intact throughout the day, whist still allowing the sunlight to softly filter in. And not only that, they look super stylish from both the inside and outside, so are the perfect finishing touch to your conservatory.

Bring colour, pattern and texture into your space

A key benefit of curtains is that they add a wonderful texture to a room. The relaxed folds offer a different dimension to the cool glass of an extension or conservatory, and provide an opportunity for adding colour and pattern. We’ve hundreds of curtain fabrics to choose from in our collection, so no matter what your personal style, we’ll have just the thing to help dress your space. We love the retro vibe our Rayna Aqua curtains bring to this otherwise all-white conservatory, but there’s plenty more choice in our range. Your advisor will bring all of the samples for you to look through at home.

A perfect fit for every home

What’s more, curtains can also be made to fit even the widest windows, which is good news if you have a modern glass extension or a large conservatory. We offer a made-to-measure service so whatever your window size, your curtains will be millimetre perfect. Just book an appointment and one of our advisors will accurately measure up and return to fit your chosen curtains. It couldn’t be easier or more convenient.
