Creating the perfect cosy space with living room curtains

Living rooms are the places we retreat to at the end of a busy day, where we unwind, relax and recharge our batteries, so it’s important these spaces work well for us. As windows play a huge part in the overall look and feel of a room, choosing the correct dressings is key to creating a happy environment. Curtains make a great choice for so many reasons – they help create a cosy atmosphere, are suitable for a wide range of windows and look great too.

If you’re looking to update your living room with curtains, read on for our expert tips and to browse our inspirational homes.

Create a cosy sanctuary

First and foremost, living rooms should be comfortable, and a good way to achieve this is to dress your windows with curtains. Having layers at the window helps keep your room warm and toasty by reducing draughts, and the look and feel of a pair of curtains really adds to that snug feel too. If your windows are large, or if they let precious heat escape, choose one of our heavier curtain fabrics or upgrade to a thermal lining for additional cosiness.

Perfect for bays, boxes and bows

A real benefit of choosing curtains is that they’re suitable for almost any type of window, including bays, boxes and bows. Our bespoke, made-to-measure service means you can choose to have your curtains fitted to a track so that they can be drawn all the way around the window. Or, if your window allows, you can have your curtains fitted to a pole outside of the recess, so they close across the front of the window. Your advisor will talk you through all the options, and help you choose the right curtains for your window.

The hottest trends at your window

Getting the latest looks at home is easy when you choose curtains. We’ve hundreds of stylish fabrics to choose from - including florals, stripes, damasks and jacquards, as well as a full spectrum of plains and textures. You can also customise your curtains with accessories like poles and finials, tie-backs and holdbacks, linings and a choice of curtain header.

Consider voiles for a contemporary twist

If you love the look of curtains but want something a little lighter, then consider voiles. These sheer panels are a modern alternative to net curtains and make a great choice for overlooked windows, as they offer privacy without blocking out the light. Voiles work well on their own, or you could pair them with traditional curtains for the best of both worlds – draw the voiles in the day for privacy, and the curtains at night for added protection and warmth. Our collection includes white, cream and grey voiles as well as contemporary swirl and striped designs.

Make a feature of supersized windows

A large window or patio door in the living room can become a striking feature when dressed correctly. Curtains make an ideal choice for this type of window as they provide depth, texture and style, and are also easy to operate. Our made-to-measure service means that we can make curtains to fit even the widest of windows, so you won’t need to worry about sizing. Just book an appointment and one of our advisors will measure up and take you through all the designs we have available.
