Charlie Luxton's coastal look

If you love the coastal look, you’ll love Charlie Luxton’s Cornish home.

Tactile materials

Texture is key to creating a coastal feel. Even the outside of Charlie’s Cornwall home stands proud against the elements with different shaped textured stones. Of course, the location of Charlie’s home makes the space inherently coastal, but it’s the interior where Charlie’s paired-back design comes to light.

In the mix

Inside, the texture continues. The hub of the home is the living-dining-cooking space that the whole family can enjoy. Charlie layered floaty linen-effect Voile curtains with striking blue Roller blinds at the sliding doors. The abstract, geometric design called Brindle Denim Drift from our new collection reminds Charlie of the boundary between the sea and sky. The pop of yellow with a Fascination Ochre cushion offers a twist of something unexpected.

The real coast

Cornwall might be known for summer holidays, but Charlie knows all too well that the sun doesn’t always shine. So it was important to him that his home referenced the reality of the coast. Charlie has expertly teamed blues with sun-bleached timber window surrounds and lashings of grey to pick up on those stormy skies often seen in Blighty. It’s undeniably coastal, but there’s no blue and white stripes or seagulls in sight – instead the look has a seaside feel minus the amusements and tacky shops. It’s an altogether grown-up take up on a firm favourite.

Water-washed shades

At the kitchen window, Charlie chose the same Brindle Roller blind design he selected for the patio doors, this time in a water-washed grey colourway. All the Roller blinds in the living spaces roll up neatly, allowing an unadulterated view of the coast, but controlling the light and allowing him to batten down the hatches when it weather hits. Choosing the same design in different shades gives a coherent feel.

A coastal sanctuary

At the end of a long day surfing, Charlie’s bedroom is a sanctuary. Blue-grey colour blocking frames the bed, while Abacus Sky Blue cushions provide a comfy place to enjoy a book. Charlie’s also opted for a window dressing that’s practical for the changeable climate – a ThermaShade Pleated blind with a honeycomb structure to help keep things temperate whatever the weather. Plus, the blind is slim line when pulled up, meaning the room is still bathed in light in the day.
