Clever ways to make the most of the spring sunshine

Sheer brilliance

For flexible control over light and privacy, Day & Night blinds have it all. These clever blinds look like a Roller blind, but work in a similar way to a louvered Venetian blind. Day & Night blinds are made up of two layers - one sheer and one opaque. The two layers pass over each other to give you flexible options at the window. The fully opaque position gives you daytime privacy and maximum light control, while the opaque/sheer position gently filters light to provide a soft, diffused effect. And of course you can simply open the blind fully to enjoy an uninterrupted view from your window.

The top tier

Shutters inherently offer flexible light control, but tier-on-tier shutters have the edge when it comes to sheer versatility. The great thing about these shutters is that the top and bottom panels open independently, so you can maintain your privacy at the lower level, whilst opening the upper level to let in lots of light. Close both sections and tilt the louvres to gently filter light, or, on very hot days, close both the panels and louvres to keep your room feeling cool.

Two’s company

Here’s a great way to create a flexible and stylish finish that’s full of movement and colour. Combining curtains with Voiles not only looks great, but also gives you different options at the window. For a fresh and airy feel that also provides valuable daytime privacy, simply close the Voiles, leaving your curtains open. And when you want to reduce glare, block out light or simply add an extra layer of cosiness, close the curtains too.

Another level

If your windows have multiple glass panels, it’s a good idea to fit individual blinds into each pane. This allows you to operate each blind individually, positioning each blind to effectively control light levels as the sun moves across the sky throughout the day. Fitting blinds in this way also gives you lots of design options. By positioning your blinds at different levels in the window, you create a relaxed, informal look. Choose a variety of complementary prints or colours for your blinds to add personality and a designer feel.
