Contemporary interior design: House Beautiful collection

What contemporary interior design means today

Contemporary interior design isn’t about following a strict set of rules or sticking to one look. Instead, it reflects how we want our homes to feel right now – comfortable, calm and easy to live with.

Today, that often means moving away from anything too stark or show‑home perfect. Softer colours, natural textures and designs inspired by the outdoors help create spaces that feel welcoming and relaxed, while still looking considered and modern. It’s a style shaped by everyday life, and how our homes need to work for us as much as how they look.

At Hillarys, this understanding comes from working in real homes, seeing how contemporary design choices play out in day‑to‑day living.

The House Beautiful collection

Our latest collection with House Beautiful is inspired by the idea of your home as a place of calm and quiet: your own little hideaway.

The new Roller and Vertical designs feature modern nature-led prints alongside soothing tones and textures. It’s also the first Hillarys & House Beautiful collection to include Vertical blinds.

Laid-back botanicals

Fresh botanical designs add character and charm to contemporary interiors without overpowering the room.

Amaya, shown here, is a bold design, with trails of white leaves and flowers on vibrant jade green. June is elegant and understated, with loose, sketchy foliage on a pale neutral background. And Bonnie has a modern Arts-and-Crafts feel, with vintage-style blooms in soft, muted shades.

Creating a sense of calm

The collection also reflects a wider contemporary interior design trend for warmer neutrals and cosy, lived-in spaces.

Soft ticking stripes and subtle prints add texture and depth, while earthy tones of terracotta, sage and natural linen have been chosen for their quiet, cocooning feel.

  • Every single one of these styles will add new dimension, warmth and expression to every space.

Vertical blinds: a practical addition to the collection

For the first time, our House Beautiful collection includes Vertical blinds. So you can choose the design you love without compromising on practicality.

Light conditions change throughout the day, and we know that the way you use your room may change too. If your sunny dining room doubles up as a home office, we’ve got you covered.

  • We don’t have a lot of space so each room must be utilised to its fullest potential. I love impactful design choices, but they must also be practical and functional to ensure that every room in our home works hard for us.

Turn the brightness up (or down)

Vertical blinds provide privacy without blocking your view. They’re also a cost-effective way to dress large windows and patio doors.

Another big advantage of Vertical blinds is their versatility. The individual lengths of fabric can be positioned flat to block strong sunlight, drawn to one side for a clear view, or precisely angled to adjust the light entering the room.

All about the new collection

  • The new Roller and Vertical designs combine calming tones and nature-led prints for relaxed, liveable spaces.
  • Modern botanical patterns bring character to contemporary interiors without overwhelming the room.
  • A focus on warmth and comfort reflects key interior trends, including earthy palettes and soft, layered textures.
  • New Vertical blinds offer a practical way to control light levels while keeping a cohesive look.

The joy of coming home

Your home is your private retreat, and we set out to reflect and celebrate that. Each piece in the collection invites you to step inside, turn down the volume on the outside world and embrace a slower, more relaxed pace.
