Bathrooms have traditionally been dominated by white and neutral schemes, but colour is becoming an increasingly popular way to bring personality into the space. Whether you prefer bold paint, eye-catching wallpaper or colourful accents, there are plenty of ways to create a bathroom that feels uniquely yours.
From statement shades to unexpected combinations, these colourful bathroom ideas will help you embrace a bolder approach.
One of the most striking bathroom paint ideas is colour drenching, where the same shade is used across walls, woodwork and architectural details. Deep blues, rich greens and other saturated hues can bring depth, drama and plenty of character to a bathroom.
To keep the look balanced, pair deeper tones with white bathroom fixtures and metallic finishes. Don't be afraid to make your window dressing part of the design. A patterned Roller blind can introduce contrast, turning the window into a feature in its own right.
Green remains one of the most versatile bathroom colours, creating a rejuvenating and relaxing atmosphere. From soft sage to vibrant lime, these fresh tones bring an outdoor influence into the home and work particularly well in rooms with plenty of natural light, like this loft space.
For a cohesive look, repeat the same shade across painted walls, woodwork or furniture. Adding houseplants and natural textures enhances the connection to nature.
If you're looking for colourful bathroom ideas that go beyond paint, statement wallpaper can instantly transform a space. Botanical and heritage-inspired designs introduce multiple colours and layers of interest, creating a scheme that feels rich and considered.
When using bold patterns, look for opportunities to pick out key shades elsewhere in the room. Coordinating accessories and window dressings, like this Roman blind from our V&A William Morris collection, can help everything feel connected.
“I loved bringing some classic William Morris into my home in such a subtle and elevated way and having a bit of a pattern clash too!”

Combining several colours in one room can create a beautifully curated look. Deep blue panelling, floral wallpaper and blush pink accents are a great example of how contrasting shades can work together harmoniously.
The secret is repetition. Repeating colours across walls, furnishings and decorative details helps create a sense of flow.
“I’m pink’s biggest fan, but for me, it’s all about restraint. In order to properly appreciate the shade, you need to introduce other hues to your décor scheme.”

A colourful bathroom doesn't always require a complete redesign. Introducing colour through blinds and accessories can have just as much impact in a neutral space.
Warm shades such as coral, terracotta and orange are ideal for adding energy and warmth. Against a backdrop of white walls or tiles, they create a striking contrast that feels modern and uplifting.
Bright colours aren't the only route to a colourful bathroom. Soft teal, muted green and powder blue can bring personality to a room while maintaining a calm, spa-like feel.
These gentler tones pair beautifully with natural materials, white fittings and understated window dressings - like this cream Venetian blind - creating a scheme that's timeless and easy to live with.
