Yes, curtains are great insulators and can help to reduce heat loss. To keep as much heat as possible in your living room, choose curtains with a thermal lining or blackout lining - it'll help reduce heat loss by 14% to keep your home cosier. In summer, curtains can also help keep a room cooler by reducing the amount of heat that enters through your windows. A blackout lining will also help block the light so you can get a peaceful nights' sleep. Choose naturally thicker curtain fabrics like velvet or layer your curtains over a made-to-measure blind to improve the thermal qualities of your curtains even further. Closing your curtains by dusk will help insulate your bedroom windows at night and keep the space feeling cosy.
If you are sensitive to light and prefer a dark sleeping environment, blackout curtains can effectively block out external light sources. This can be especially beneficial if you live in an urban area with street lights or if your bedroom gets a lot of natural light. Blackout curtains can also help you create a sleep-friendly environment during daytime hours. For example if you work night shifts they can simulate nighttime darkness, promoting better sleep quality. Blackout linings also have insulating properties, helping to regulate room temperature and keep things nice and cosy.
