Modern Rustic: Styled by Emily Henson

Emily Henson, interior stylist, designer and author, teams curtain and Roman blind fabrics from our collection to design an original interior in her signature Modern Rustic style.

  • Modern Rustic interiors are calming, comforting & textured
  • Get the look with layered curtains and Roman blinds
  • Choose natural fabrics in neutral shades
  • Made-to-measure for a designer finish

Emily Henson is an interior stylist who has made her mark creating natural and original interiors. In her ‘lifeunstyled’ interiors blog, Emily focuses on embracing imperfection to create an authentic home.

Emily has styled prestigious campaigns for some of the biggest names in the high street, including Ikea, Laura Ashley and M & S. She has also written three books on interior design.

We asked Emily to show us how to create a signature look from her first interiors book, Modern Rustic, using fabrics from our stunning curtains and Roman blinds collection. Emily chose natural fabrics in subtle shades to create this calm and texturally enveloping look.

Emily’s fabric choices

For a rustic and supremely cosy feel, Emily teamed a classic woven check Roman blind with linen-look curtains in Lindora Silver. She finished her look with a mountain of deep filled cushions in coordinating shades of blush pink, dove grey, mustard and chartreuse.

I love how calming, comforting and inviting this room looks. It makes me want to hunker down on that sofa and get cosy under all the layers. It has a lot of character but in a subtle way that doesn’t overwhelm the senses.

Why choose made-to-measure

Emily reflects on her own sewing skills in her appreciation of the quality and skill that goes into a made-to-measure window dressing. She told us: ‘I made a pair of curtains once that were so uneven in length that you couldn’t hide it. I tried to tell friends that I did it on purpose, but I couldn’t say it with a straight face’.
